~* Toast & Roast *~

My blog was so dead for the past few months. I was occupied by so many things! Thank God, i am now on annual leave since more than a week ago (but it is gonna end real soon!). During this period, i spent most of my time planning for the upcoming Taiwan trip which will happen in February 2012 and re-organising all the folders and files in my laptop. And now, i am here to revive my blog!

Anyway, my colleagues and i discovered this hidden gem in SS2 few months ago, selling melt-in-mouth BBQ pork ("char siew") and Hakka mee.

The melt-in-mouth char siew.
Seriously sinful and able to make one feels extremely guilty. Few pieces of this is enough to makes you think that your blood arteries are blocked and cholesterol level has increased.

Hakka mee with minced meat.

Thereafter, we visited this shop quite often for lunch until recently because we are bored with the same food. It is not an ideal place to visit always but definitely a good choice for sinful char siew and delicious Hakka mee.

~* Claypot Loh Shu Fun @ Mama Kitchen *~

At last, bf and i tried the famous Claypot Loh Shu Fun at Mama Kitchen, TTDI. Well, it was not our initial plan. We were supposed to visit the Ramadhan Bazaar but it was raining heavily. Hence, we just gave Mama Kitchen a try.

Claypot Loh Shu Fun (Small - RM7.00)
We love the facts that there was a lot of minced meat and the portion was considerably big even when we ordered a small one. A very good comfort food on a rainy day.

Spinach in Superior Stock (RM8.00)
Nothing much to brag about. Not the best i have ever tried.

Butter Milk Squid (Small - RM12.00)
How i wish the portion could be bigger than this! It was so delicious and i really love how the squids were drenched in the butter milk gravy. Yes! I prefer the gravy version instead of the dry one when it comes to butter milk. Bf and i shared a bowl of white rice just to go with this dish.

We will be back again for more delicious dishes and of course, the claypot loh shu fun. :)

*~ M.A.C.A.R.O.O.N.sssss ~*

Macaroons from Molten Lava in One Utama.

Raspberry (red), Pistachio with White Chocolate (green), Chocolate Ganache (brown) and Passion fruit (yellow). RM3.00 per piece. I wish i could buy more but bf was there to stop me. The macaroons would be nice if they had not been too soft on the outside. And passion fruit is my favourite. The flavour tasted so real and i could even find the passion fruit seeds in it. Yum...

Ahh... Love the colours...

*~ Seafood @ Lala Chong ~*

After working for nearly two months, some of the colleagues who joined the company at the same time as me decided to go for seafood. One of them suggested Lala Chong at Kampung Kayu Sungai Ara, the same area where Pantai Seafood is located. Altogether, we had six dishes excluding the steam mantau (bun). Besides having a plate of vegetable to balance up our meal, we also had:

Salted Egg Crab.
Well, salted egg crab is not always my choice as i prefer crab with gravy. Hence, i can't really tell you whether this or Tak Fok's salted egg crab is better.

Creamy Butter Crab.
One of my favourite crab dishes. And yes, i can tell you that Tak Fok did a better job in this with the intense flavour.

Clams In Superior Stock.
I hate doing this again but i must admit that i still prefer to have this at Tak Fok. At Tak Fok, i remember that the soup was hot because of the ginger that gave comfort to my stomach and it had a hint of sweetness because of kei chi (wolfberries).

Kung Pou Mantis Prawn.
Nothing much to shout about this as it was pretty common and it always can be my favourite.

Fried Baby Squids with Honey.
I think not very suitable to be eaten with rice. It reminds me of those seafood snacks you can get from Pangkor Island. It goes better with beer.

There were 6 of us and if i am not mistaken, each of us paid about RM32. I can't remember the exact amount we paid since it had happened quite long ago. I might go back again for their Pucuk Paku (fern) with Tuna, Tau Foo Kang (beancurd in thick soup) and some other non crab dishes. We will see how everything goes.

*~ Good Deal @ Tian Tian Lai ~*

Bf mentioned about this Restoran Tian Tian Seafood (but in Chinese character, it is "Restoran Tian Tian LAI Seafood") in Sunway that served dishes at affordable prices. He also always talked about the butter mantis prawn. We decided to have dinner there few weeks ago and i pulled mum along.

Most of the time, mum and i just like ordering this Belacan Fried Sweet Potato Leaves (RM8.00) whenever we went out for dinner at this kind of places.

Butter Mantis Prawn (RM10.00) that bf recommended. Yes, RM10.00 for this big portion. I always prefer the creamy one but this was not bad at all. Bf told me that it could be better. To me, it failed to give me the "umph" i wanted. Again, RM10.00 for this mantis prawn was considered very cheap.

As recommended by bf also, we had Marmite Chicken Wings (RM10.00). 3 drummets and 3 wings. Surprisingly, this captured my attention rather than the butter mantis prawn. Really delicious... Crispy-skin chicken wings coated with sweet Marmite sauce. Yum yum...

Mum was so surprised when the bill came up to RM32, i think, which was a very good deal. Her eyes almost popped out. She kept on saying that we would be back again for other dishes and i totally agreed with her. :)

*~ New Paris @ SS2 (Revisit) ~*

Before Lim (the joker in cap) went back to Australia in July for more torturing lessons, we had a dinner with him at New Paris in SS2. It was my second visit.

Like my first visit, we had Champagne Chicken...
(I just don't get it why the watermelon balls had to be there. Perhaps, it should be our dessert and not to be eaten together with the chicken as part of the main course.)

... and Guinness Stout Pork Ribs.
I enjoyed having the gravy with rice!

The following dishes are those i never tried during my first visit:

House special Beancurd with Minced Meat.
It was not as dry as it looked and had exceeded my expectation. :)

Sweet and Sour Pork.
One of the food in the joker's list that he wanted to eat before going back to Australia. It was just alright and had nothing to shout about. Not the best sweet and sour pork i tried.

Kam Heong Lala.
The sauce was nice, especially with rice. It made us asking for more rice. However, there were many empty shells or the meat was very small. =/

Stir Fried Baby Kailan with Garlic to balance the meal.

*~ Guoming's Birthday ~*

The Friday before the midterm exam, we went to Kitchen Creatures at Centrepoint, Bandar Utama to celebrate Guoming's birthday. It was supposed to be a surprise that his girlfriend planned and we thought he already knew it before the celebration in the evening . Thank God he did not since he is quite blurred most of the time. XD

So, Kitchen Creatures is well-known for its no frills dining. They keep everything very simple. They don't over garnish the dishes. They don't charge expensively. No government tax. No service charge.

Garlic Bread.

Mushroom Soup for RM5.90.
Be happy that they are not using Campbell soup and just chuck in additional mushrooms.

Margherita Pizza (RM10.00) with spinach, tomato pesto and lots of cheese. It was about the size of a regular pizza. I shared this with Seak Ling. Only the cheese made me felt satisfied. I should have ordered something meaty.

Look at the cheese sliding down .

Grilled Chicken.

I have told you that they don't really garnish. They just serve you whatever you want in the most basic way.

Calling all the steak lovers, Sizzling Rib Eye Steak for just RM18.00.

Spicy Aglio Olio with Shrimps.
According to my friend, this was not so nice.

Beef Stroganoff.
Guoming's girlfriend seemed to enjoy this. I could smell it from my seat and oh boy, the smell was really nice.

Birthday boy's Grilled lamb chop.

Last but not least, Limey George (RM7.00), something that you and i can do it at home. Ribena + Sprite or 7 Up.

Check out Edmond's blog here for more human pictures. You can read the post too provided you can understand Chinese. Otherwise, just check out the pictures like i did. :)

*~ Have You Tried Fried Laksa? ~*

I definitely love today! I supposed to follow bf back to his college to do my work there since sitting at home would lead me to doing nothing and there was no electricity in during lunch time. But before going to his college, we went to have a bowl of cendol which bf recommended after he went there with his friends. It was located opposite this SJ Uptown sign whereby there were few other stalls selling food like Indian rojak, pisang goreng, and some light Indian food.

Okay. I am not really a fan of cendol besides drinking the coconut milk with gula Melaka. What made this cendol great was the nice aroma of the coconut milk. I felt weird having this because we were having dessert first before heavy meal.

Then, bf took me to Restoran Well Cook Gourmet in SS14 for Fried Laksa as lunch. Yes, fried laksa. It was my first time hearing and eating it. I am so outdated because when i searched online for this restaurant a moment ago, there were already well-known Malaysian floggers (food bloggers) wrote a review about the food there since few years back. Moreover, the restaurant is not that eye-catching.

Bf had Fried Tang-Hoon. It was not too oily and i could see there were several, and not a few, juicy shrimps in it.

Meanwhile, i tried the Fried Laksa. Surprisingly, it was flavourful. Although it was fried like the usual char kuey teow, i still could taste asam laksa. Yum yum... The dry version of asam laksa.

However, i read a comment when i did an online search just now about this restaurant. I felt like puking after reading it on what had happened and the owners' reaction. Click here to read.

~* When Eating Is The Best Thing To Do *~

Hola~ I tried the chilly pan mee at Super Kitchen Chilly Pan Mee in Kota Damansara last weekend.

It was similar to the dry version of pan mee but this had minced meat, fried shallot and poached egg but no sliced mushroom and black fungus. And the poached egg was not meant to be eaten on its own but it had to be mixed together with all the ingredients in the bowl.

Then, tea time was at the Ikea restaurant. I really wanted to try the open faced shrimp sandwich but i was not allowed to. So, i only had this Daim cake which was very nice but sinful since i have been eating a lot of chocolates lately.

This was definitely ordered by someone who tried to be healthy.

Dinner at Dragon One in SS2 (few shops away from Murni) together with mum. We ordered this Shanghainese Style La Mian with Crab Roe. I read from other blogs that this is so-called recommended but i really found it disappointing. It was somehow tasteless. Totally nothing to shout about. I don't recommend this at all.

Another main dish was Stir Fried Rice Flour Roll with Spicy Sauce. It was crispy outside and soft inside. Good thing about this - it was not too oily.

However, the snack was the best!
Deep Fried Spring Roll with Unagi and Yoghurt.

Warm yoghurt in the spring roll with the taste of unagi even though i could not really feel the meat in my mouth.

Overall, the dinner was just average. I don't think i will be going back there in the near future.

*~ Ah Or Pork Noodle @ Sunway Mentari ~*

Today, i purposely went all the way to Sunway to meet up with bf after his class for Ah Or Pork Noodle at Sunway Mentari. Again, it is very near to Yuen Steamboat. Bf was the one recommended me to try this pork noodle.

I was very disappointed when there was no yee mee. I always love my pork noodle with yee mee. So, i had no choice but to mix kuey teow and mee hoon. But i would not deny the truth that the soup is real nice. Very clear but sweet soup. Yum yum...

Hehe... I took this picture at Lorong Maarof Petronas, Bangsar when buying Indian rojak for mum. Love it. The weather was so hot until bf and i decided to share a bowl of cendol before going home with mum's Indian rojak.

Bf still prefers the cendol at SS15.

~* Kissaten - Revisit *~

After class on Tuesday, Sharon, Seak Ling, Keh Ming and i went to Kissaten at Jaya One for lunch. Sharon wanted to give it a try after reading my post about one week ago. So, the three of them ordered the set lunch. The set lunch came with free raw salmon (sashimi) and 10% discount on total bill.

Keh Ming and Seak Ling ordered the Salmon Steak set. Besides the free sashimi, each of the set had a side salad, white rice, chawan mushi and miso soup.

Meanwhile, Sharon had the Chicken Katsudon set which had the same side dishes as the Salmon Steak set. I love eating the onion omelet - one of the reasons i will order this kind of rice at Japanese restaurants.

The smell of the Chawan mushi was so nice but i had no idea how it tasted because i did not try this.

I wanted to order the mentaiko spaghetti so badly but in the end, i ordered the Teriyaki Pork Burger after telling myself that i need to watch out on the portion of my food.

The burger was alright but i had difficulty in eating it because of the mayonnaise. Too much of mayo that made me felt soooo jelak. Because i could not fit the burger into my mouth, i eliminated the burger layer by layer. It was a wrong decision! By the time i wanted to eat the pork patty -trying to save the best for last- i almost could not take it anymore. The mayo made me felt jelak and eating the pork patty alone doubled the jelak-ness.

Nicely done egg yolk.

I thought the sashimi would be served first but i was wrong. It became the "dessert". The thickness of the salmon satisfied Seak Ling, the raw salmon lover.

The Rich Choco Pudding was nice when first put into the mouth but later on it had the smell of a fake chocolate made of rubber. You know, if you go to those souvenir shops, you will find the fake chocolate made of rubber that has the smell of chocolate - but not too real.
